Welcome to the Summer 2024 edition of the EPS Newsletter.

As we navigate through the vibrant months of summer, I'm delighted to bring you the latest updates and achievements from the Education Procurement Service. This season has been particularly eventful, marked by significant advancements, national milestones, and inspiring stories of success.

First and foremost, the Office of Government Procurement (OGP) has enhanced its Procurement Policy for Goods & Services section on their website. These updates aim to provide more accessible and comprehensive resources for public buyers, facilitating smoother procurement processes across the board.

In a pivotal update, Minister Paschal Donohoe shared the fifth memorandum of the National Development Plan 2023/2024, emphasising the progress made in the second quarter of the year. The NDP remains crucial in delivering the infrastructure necessary for our economic and social development, ensuring a brighter future for all.

On the sustainability front, Green Public Procurement (GPP) continues to gain momentum. With the Environmental Protection Agency's support, GPP aims to minimise environmental impacts through mindful purchasing decisions. The development of monitoring and reporting guidelines signifies a progressive step toward integrating environmental consciousness into procurement practices.

This summer also witnessed remarkable achievements at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with Irish athletes bringing home an impressive haul of medals. Their dedication and triumphs reflect the spirit of perseverance and excellence that we at EPS strive to embody. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the athletes, especially Team Ireland, for their outstanding performances.

We are excited to announce the creation of a multi-supplier framework agreement to increase the number of Guidance Counsellors in post-primary education. Led by Glenn Coyle within the education team this framework and initiative addresses the growing need within our educational institutions, ensuring that students receive the guidance and support they deserve.

Additionally, we reflect on the success of the University of Limerick's Cooperative Education Programme. Our recent co-op students, Niamh Bourke and Amelia Corbett, have left a very positive and lasting impression through their dedication, enthusiasm and hard work. We wish them the very best in their future endeavours.

Looking ahead, the industry is buzzing with upcoming events. From the Public Sector Tendering & Procurement Conference to the National Procurement Awards, these gatherings present invaluable opportunities for networking and professional growth.

As always, we encourage you to share your feedback and suggestions. Your insights are vital in helping us enhance our services and meet your needs effectively.

Thank you for your continued support and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Warmest Regards,

Philip Gurnett | Director Education Procurement Service & Head of Sourcing Education
